Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in Michigan?
Michigan's largest sponsors of occupational therapists include Henry Ford Health System, Beaumont Health (now Corewell Health), Trinity Health, and the University of Michigan Health System. Pediatric therapy networks and long-term care operators such as ProMedica and Gentiva Health Services also sponsor internationally trained OTs, particularly for roles in underserved regions of the state.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in Michigan?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Michigan, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current AOTA standards. Some Michigan employers, particularly nonprofits and health systems, also sponsor EB-3 immigrant visas for OTs willing to pursue permanent residence. Canadian OTs may qualify for TN visa status as an alternative to H-1B.
Which cities in Michigan have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its metro area account for the largest share of OT sponsorship opportunities in Michigan, anchored by major health systems headquartered there. Grand Rapids is a secondary hub, driven by Corewell Health's west Michigan footprint. Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Flint also see consistent OT hiring. Rural areas in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula sometimes offer sponsorship due to persistent staffing shortages.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, making it a direct way to find OT roles in Michigan where employers are open to sponsoring. You can filter by state and role to see current openings from Michigan health systems and therapy networks actively hiring occupational therapists. This saves time compared to manually vetting whether individual postings include sponsorship.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for OTs seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan requires OTs to hold a state license from the Michigan Board of Occupational Therapy before practicing, and employers typically need this confirmed before initiating an H-1B petition. The state's concentration of large nonprofit health systems means many employers are cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, which removes the lottery risk. OTs with experience in geriatrics or pediatric settings tend to see stronger demand given Michigan's demographic profile.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
