Which companies in Maine sponsor visas for software developers?
WEX Inc., a Portland-based payment technology company, is one of Maine's more consistent sponsors of software developer roles and has a history of H-1B filings. Idexx Laboratories in Westbrook and Tyler Technologies also appear in federal LCA disclosure data for technology positions. Smaller SaaS companies and defense contractors in the Portland area occasionally sponsor as well, though less frequently than larger employers.
Which visa types are most common for software developers in Maine?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software developers in Maine, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3, which has no lottery and is significantly easier to obtain. Some applicants also enter through L-1 transfers if their employer has a U.S. entity, or through TN status if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find software developer roles in Maine where employers are open to visa sponsorship. You can filter by state and role to see active listings specific to Maine's market, including positions at fintech, health tech, and enterprise software companies. Reviewing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data alongside Migrate Mate listings gives you a fuller picture of which Maine employers have sponsored developers before.
Which cities in Maine have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
Portland is the clear center of Maine's tech hiring, home to WEX Inc. and a growing cluster of SaaS and fintech startups. South Portland and Westbrook, both part of the Greater Portland metro, also host employers with technical teams. Augusta and Bangor have a smaller number of openings, primarily through state government IT contractors and regional healthcare technology firms.
Are there any state-specific factors software developers should know before targeting Maine sponsorship jobs?
Maine's tech sector is smaller than Boston or New York, which means fewer total sponsoring employers but also less competition for the roles that do exist. The University of Maine system produces a local pipeline of graduates, but international hiring tends to concentrate at mid-size companies like WEX that have established immigration processes. Prevailing wage requirements for software developer roles in Maine reflect regional pay scales, which employers must certify when filing a Labor Condition Application.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
