Which companies sponsor visas for software developers in Nebraska?
Omaha-based employers have been among Nebraska's most consistent H-1B sponsors for software developer roles. Companies including Union Pacific Railroad, Mutual of Omaha, First Data (now Fiserv), and HDR Engineering have filed Labor Condition Applications for software positions in recent years. Nebraska's financial services, insurance, and transportation sectors drive much of this demand, alongside a smaller but growing number of tech-focused firms.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software developers in Nebraska, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Some developers employed by multinational companies transfer via the L-1B visa. Those with exceptional records in the field may also qualify for the O-1A, though this route requires substantial documented achievements.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the large majority of software developer visa sponsorship activity in Nebraska. Its concentration of Fortune 500 companies in insurance, finance, and logistics creates consistent demand for technical talent. Lincoln is a secondary market, benefiting from proximity to the University of Nebraska and a smaller but active startup and government technology sector. Outside these two cities, sponsorship opportunities are limited.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters software developer job listings specifically to employers who sponsor visas, saving you the time of sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. You can narrow results to Nebraska to focus on Omaha and Lincoln employers actively hiring for these positions. Because sponsorship willingness isn't always stated in job postings, using a platform built around sponsorship data is the most reliable approach for software developer candidates.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for software developers pursuing visa sponsorship?
Nebraska falls under the Department of Labor's Midwest wage region, and prevailing wage levels for software developer roles here are generally lower than coastal tech hubs, which can affect how employers structure H-1B petitions. The University of Nebraska system produces a steady pipeline of graduates who enter OPT, giving employers familiarity with international hiring processes. Nebraska has no state income tax on software developer salaries in the same bracket concerns as higher-cost states, which some employers factor into compensation planning.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
