- Familiarity with regression testing concepts, automated test execution, and test result analysis
- Experience or strong interest in hardware/software co-design and systems that integrate real-world hardware
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience developing software for test systems, lab automation, or hardware control environments
- Familiarity with communication interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, serial, or instrument control APIs
- Exposure to data logging, visualization, and post-processing workflows
- Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams (hardware, firmware, software, systems engineering)
- Comfortable working in lab settings with physical hardware
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)

Which companies sponsor visas for software developers in Oregon?
Intel is Oregon's most prolific H-1B sponsor for software developers, primarily at its Hillsboro campus. Other active sponsors include Nike, Daimler Truck North America, and various Portland-based software and SaaS companies. Oregon Health & Science University and other research institutions also sponsor developers through H-1B and J-1 visa categories. Sponsorship activity is concentrated in the Portland metro and the Silicon Forest corridor.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software developers in Oregon, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some multinational employers like Intel also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers. Canadian and Mexican citizens working as software developers may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA.
Which cities in Oregon have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the broader Portland metro area, including Hillsboro and Beaverton, account for the overwhelming majority of software developer sponsorship activity in Oregon. Intel's massive Hillsboro presence drives a significant share. Eugene has a smaller but active tech cluster, partly connected to University of Oregon alumni. Outside these areas, sponsorship opportunities for software developers are significantly less common.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for software developer roles in Oregon to see employers who have an active history of sponsoring work visas. This is more efficient than sorting through general job listings where sponsorship availability is rarely stated upfront. Migrate Mate updates listings regularly to reflect current openings.
Are there any Oregon-specific factors software developers should know about visa sponsorship?
Oregon's Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations apply to H-1B petitions filed for roles in the state, and employers must pay at least the prevailing wage for the specific occupation and location. Portland's relatively high cost of living influences prevailing wage levels for software developers. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon produce a steady pipeline of international CS graduates on OPT, making employer familiarity with visa sponsorship reasonably common among Portland-area tech firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
