ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you will be a force multiplier at the intersection of platform reliability and engineering excellence. You will be responsible for the observability, releasability, and security foundations that keep Ripple's products highly available, performant, and resilient at scale. You will be part of Ripple's Technical Operations team and help elevate the engineering capabilities behind 40+ years of treasury expertise and trillions in annual payments volume for SMEs through Fortune 500 customers. This role will be embedded across stream-aligned teams, driving CI/CD practices, production observability, and DevSecOps integration. You will coach, mentor, and architect solutions that enable engineering teams to ship faster, safer, and with greater confidence. If you're energized by complex distributed-systems challenges and want to help redefine corporate treasury in the Internet of Value, this is the opportunity for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Embed with stream-aligned teams in time-boxed engagements (6–12 weeks) to build capabilities across observability, CI/CD, and security domains
- Coach teams on instrumenting code with logs, metrics, and traces; creating dashboards, alerts, and defining SLOs/SLIs and error budgets to improve production troubleshooting
- Guide teams in designing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and Octopus Deploy, including trunk-based development and progressive delivery strategies
- Teach teams to integrate security scanning (SAST, DAST, SCA) into pipelines, perform threat modeling, implement secrets management, and remediate vulnerabilities
- Identify and remove operational bottlenecks across deployment, monitoring, and security practices to reduce lead time, MTTR, and vulnerability remediation time
- Develop reusable templates, documentation, and golden path examples for pipelines, dashboards, and security controls that teams can adopt independently
- Measure and track team progress on DORA metrics, observability maturity, and security posture, demonstrating measurable improvement over each engagement
- Collaborate with the Subsystems Platform Team to translate recurring team needs into scalable, self-service platform capabilities
- Facilitate knowledge sharing through workshops, pairing sessions, and documentation that builds lasting team competence across all three domains
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering with hands-on exposure across multiple disciplines
- Strong expertise in application observability tools (New Relic, Datadog, or similar), including structured logging, distributed tracing, and dashboard/alert creation
- Proven experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and Octopus Deploy, with deep knowledge of deployment automation (required)
- Solid understanding of application security practices including SAST, DAST, SCA tools, OWASP Top 10, and DevSecOps integration into CI/CD pipelines
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools, and knowledge of trunk-based development and version control best practices (required)
- Understanding of SLO/SLI definitions, error budgets, reliability engineering principles, and familiarity with secrets management solutions (Azure Key Vault, HashiCorp Vault)
- Proven ability to coach and mentor engineering teams with strong communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences
- Consultative mindset with the ability to influence and guide teams without direct authority, driving change across multiple teams and technical domains

Which companies sponsor visas for software developers in New York?
Large financial technology firms including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Bloomberg regularly sponsor software developers through the H-1B program. Major tech companies with New York offices, such as Google, Amazon, and Meta, are also frequent sponsors. Beyond those names, mid-size SaaS companies and fintech startups concentrated in Manhattan and Brooklyn have established sponsorship track records visible in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in New York?
The H-1B is by far the most commonly used visa for software developers in New York, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Developers already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, including the 24-month STEM extension, often transition to H-1B through their employer. The O-1A is an option for developers with an exceptional record of achievement, though it sets a high evidentiary bar.
Which cities in New York have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the overwhelming majority of software developer sponsorship activity in the state, particularly Manhattan's Midtown and Lower Manhattan financial districts, as well as the Brooklyn Tech Triangle spanning DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, and the Navy Yard. Buffalo and Rochester have smaller but active tech communities, with some sponsorship activity tied to healthcare IT and manufacturing software, though the volume does not compare to New York City.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters software developer roles specifically to employers in New York who have an active history of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to companies that will not support the process. You can browse current openings by role and location, and the platform surfaces employers with verified H-1B filing records. Focusing your applications on companies with confirmed sponsorship history in New York significantly narrows your search to realistic opportunities.
Are there any state-specific considerations for software developers seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor rules reflect the state's high cost of living, particularly in New York City, meaning employers must offer compensation that meets federally defined wage levels for the role and location. The density of H-1B-dependent employers in finance and tech also means some companies face additional attestation requirements. Developers with degrees from universities in the SUNY or CUNY systems sometimes have established pathways through employer recruiting partnerships, particularly in state government IT roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
