Which companies sponsor visas for software developers in Tennessee?
Several Tennessee employers have consistent records of H-1B sponsorship for software developer roles. HCA Healthcare in Nashville sponsors developers working on clinical and enterprise systems. Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Asurion, and Dollar General have also appeared in Department of Labor disclosure data for software and engineering positions. Consulting firms and IT services companies operating in Nashville and Knoxville account for a significant share of sponsorships as well.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software developers in Tennessee, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Employers also sponsor L-1B visas for developers transferring from a foreign parent or subsidiary. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue an O-1A, though this requires substantial documentation of achievement.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
Nashville accounts for the largest share of software developer sponsorship activity in Tennessee, driven by its concentration of healthcare technology, fintech, and enterprise software companies. Knoxville has a smaller but notable presence, supported by Oak Ridge National Laboratory affiliates and University of Tennessee research partnerships. Memphis contributes through logistics technology and supply chain software roles, particularly around companies operating in its distribution and transportation sector.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship roles, including software developer positions in Tennessee. You can filter by state and role to see employers with active sponsorship histories. Because sponsorship availability isn't always advertised directly in job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces sponsorship-focused listings helps narrow your search to companies already open to sponsoring work visas.
Are there state-specific factors software developers should know about sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects prevailing wage calculations employers must meet under the Labor Condition Application process. The Department of Labor sets prevailing wages by metropolitan area, so rates differ between Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis. Tennessee also benefits from a strong university pipeline through Vanderbilt, the University of Tennessee, and Tennessee Tech, which means employers are often already familiar with sponsoring international graduate hires for software roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
