Which companies sponsor visas for software developers in Kansas?
Garmin, headquartered in Olathe, is one of Kansas's most consistent H-1B sponsors for software developers. Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita hires developers for aerospace systems work. Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) maintains a significant presence in the Kansas City metro area. Smaller fintech and defense contractors operating across Overland Park and Lenexa also file LCAs for software development roles.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the primary visa category used for software developer sponsorship in Kansas, as software development consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree. Some employers also support L-1 transfers for developers relocating from international offices. Developers from Australia may find E-3 eligibility worth exploring with qualifying Kansas employers.
Which cities in Kansas have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
Overland Park and the broader Kansas City metro (Kansas side) account for the largest share of software developer sponsorship activity, driven by corporate headquarters and technology firms. Wichita follows, with aerospace and defense companies sponsoring developers for embedded systems and engineering software roles. Olathe is notable specifically because of Garmin's large domestic development campus there.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it easier to identify Kansas software developer roles where employers are actively willing to sponsor. Rather than sorting through general job postings, you can search by role and state to surface positions from companies with demonstrated H-1B sponsorship histories in Kansas, saving significant research time.
Are there any Kansas-specific considerations for software developers seeking visa sponsorship?
Kansas software developer roles are heavily influenced by the aerospace and defense industry, which means some positions carry security clearance requirements that can complicate or preclude sponsorship for non-citizens. Developers targeting Wichita employers should verify clearance requirements early. The University of Kansas and Kansas State University also produce local tech graduates, so sponsored roles tend to go to candidates with specialized skills or advanced degrees.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
