Under general supervision the Perioperative Business Associate is responsible for the business operations functions in Perioperative Services including but not limited to surgical & procedural scheduling, charge capture and reconciliation, data validation, administrative services requiring the knowledge of departmental practices and procedures, supply and equipment order processing, and value analysis support. Fulfillment of the job duties may require the employee to have access to medication storage areas.
This position provides comprehensive operational and administrative support for Perioperative and Procedural Services across the Downtown and Midtown campuses. Responsibilities may include coordinating surgical and procedural schedules, supporting patient registration and authorization processes, completing charge reconciliation and data-quality audits, and maintaining accurate clinical and billing information. The role also coordinates supplies and equipment, processes requisitions, supports product and vendor reviews, facilitates equipment repairs, and helps resolve purchasing and billing issues. Additional duties include coordinating meetings, preparing reports, supporting payroll and human resources, maintaining records, supporting special projects, and communicating with clinical teams, physicians, vendors, and other hospital departments.

- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of administrative or business operations experience, including experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Automated scheduling or clinical information systems and medical terminology
- Inventory control, supply coordination, or basic purchasing processes, including at least six months in a hospital or healthcare setting
- General clerical or administrative support
- Experience working in a business, professional office, or healthcare environment required.
- Previous operating room or perioperative services experience preferred.
- Experience with insurance verification, referrals, and prior authorizations preferred.
- Experience with Smartsheet and Microsoft Copilot preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise
- Proficient knowledge of medical and surgical terminology.
- Experience using automated scheduling or clinical information systems.
- Proficiency with computers, office equipment, data entry, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
- Experience using Smartsheet to maintain trackers, reports, forms, and operational workflows.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot for workplace productivity, communication, research, and data-related tasks.
- Knowledge of insurance authorization processes, including eligibility verification, referrals, prior authorizations, and account documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting professional correspondence and communicating with physicians, clinical staff, patients, visitors, internal departments, and external organizations.
- Strong customer-service skills with the ability to respond courteously and professionally to questions, concerns, and requests.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and demonstrate awareness of patient, visitor, and staff needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive patient, employee, and business information.
- Strong organizational, filing, record-management, and prioritization skills.
