Technical Team Lead
Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!
We at KBR share one goal: to improve the world responsibly as a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers.
About the Position:
The Technical Team Lead is a senior OMES III role for a technically credible leader who leads from the floor, not just from a desk. Responsible for the full scope of day-to-day I&T operations, this individual directly supervises a team of engineers and technicians owning task assignment, resource coordination, and schedule execution across all active integration and test work. As the primary accountability point for I&T facility execution, the Lead ensures every task is properly assigned, resourced, and driven to completion in alignment with program requirements, safety standards, and customer expectations. This is not a purely managerial role; the ideal candidate brings 10+ years of hands-on I&T experience and has grown into leadership without leaving their technical roots behind. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the on-site technical lead overseeing all hardware integration, test execution, and verification activities at the I&T Facility.
- Provide technical direction to engineers and technicians, ensuring work is performed correctly, safely, and per approved procedures.
- Review and approve test procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation prior to execution.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison to program leadership, the customer, and other functional organizations.
- Support design reviews, TRRs, and post-test debriefs as the I&T technical representative.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during integration and test activities, escalating to program management when warranted.
- Maintain the facility in a safe, organized, and operationally ready state at all times.
- Develop and refine facility SOPs to reflect current best practices and program lessons learned.
- Directly supervise the I&T team — owning task assignment, workload distribution, and day-to-day performance oversight.
- Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance check-ins, and annual evaluations per company HR processes.
- Identify training and development needs; coordinate appropriate certifications and cross-training opportunities.
- Onboard new team members to facility procedures, safety requirements, and program expectations.
- Foster a team culture grounded in technical excellence, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Ten or more years of technical experience in aerospace integration, test, systems engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated prior experience in a formal or informal technical leadership role, including task assignment, team coordination, or direct supervision of engineers or technicians.
- Hands-on experience working in an Integration and Test (I&T) facility, test lab, or hardware assembly and verification environment.
- Experience developing, reviewing, or executing test procedures, test plans, and test reports for mechanical, electrical, or systems-level hardware.
- Working knowledge of configuration management practices and engineering documentation standards (e.g., discrepancy reports, non-conformance reports, as-run procedures).
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, develop work schedules, and coordinate resources across multiple concurrent tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to effectively interface with customers, program leadership, and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with safety practices and hazardous operations controls applicable to aerospace test and integration environments.
- Prior experience supporting NASA J programs, organizations, and I&T facility operations.
- Experience leading teams in a government contractor environment, with direct personnel management responsibilities.
Basic Compensation:
$142,800 - $232,600
This pay range applies to the Greenbelt, MD location only.
The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, and in consideration of internal parity.

Which companies sponsor visas for team leads in Maryland?
Federal contractors and technology firms lead sponsorship activity for team lead roles in Maryland. Companies like Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, Northrop Grumman, and Emergent BioSolutions have consistent H-1B filing histories for supervisory and lead-level positions. Life sciences employers around the I-270 corridor in Rockville and Gaithersburg also sponsor regularly for team leads in research and operations functions.
Which visa types are most common for team lead roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa for team lead roles in Maryland, particularly in technology, engineering, and life sciences where the position requires a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. L-1A visas appear for intracompany transferees moving into lead or managerial roles. TN visas cover Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. O-1 visas are less common but available for team leads with demonstrated exceptional achievement.
Which cities in Maryland have the most team lead sponsorship jobs?
Bethesda, Rockville, and Gaithersburg in Montgomery County concentrate significant team lead sponsorship activity, driven by federal agencies, contractors, and biotech clusters along the I-270 corridor. Baltimore supports demand in cybersecurity, financial services, and healthcare IT. Columbia and Annapolis also see steady hiring, particularly from defense technology and government services firms operating between D.C. and Baltimore.
How to find team lead visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters team lead jobs in Maryland by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not sorting through roles that won't support your status. The platform surfaces employers with active sponsorship histories in the state, including federal contractors and life sciences firms. Searching by role and location on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify Maryland employers currently hiring team leads who sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for team lead visa sponsorship in Maryland?
Maryland's concentration of federal contractors means many team lead roles require security clearances, which can affect sponsorship timelines since clearance eligibility is generally limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Candidates without clearance eligibility should focus on commercial technology, biotech, and healthcare sectors in the state. The I-270 biotech corridor operates largely outside defense contracting, making it a more accessible sponsorship pipeline for international team leads.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored team lead jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
