Which companies sponsor visas for civil project engineers in Massachusetts?
Engineering and infrastructure consultancies are the most active sponsors in Massachusetts. Firms like Jacobs, WSP, CDM Smith, Stantec, Kleinfelder, and Tighe & Bond have sponsored H-1B visa petitions for civil project engineers in recent years. Large construction management firms working on MBTA and MassDOT contracts also appear in Department of Labor disclosure data as regular sponsors for this role.
Which visa types are most common for civil project engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for civil project engineers in Massachusetts, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with a civil engineering degree. Candidates with an F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension may also work while an H-1B petition is pending.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most civil project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and its surrounding metro area, including Cambridge, Waltham, and Woburn, account for the majority of civil project engineer openings with visa sponsorship in Massachusetts. These cities host the regional offices of the largest engineering consultancies and benefit from ongoing public infrastructure projects. Worcester and Springfield also have active hiring, particularly tied to MassDOT highway and transit work.
How to find civil project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to find civil project engineer roles in Massachusetts without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can browse by state and role to see which Massachusetts firms are actively hiring international candidates for civil project engineering positions, saving significant time in the job search process.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for civil project engineers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a strong pipeline of civil engineering talent from institutions like Northeastern University, UMass Amherst, and Tufts University, which means employers are experienced working with international graduates on OPT and H-1B transitions. The state's concentration of large public infrastructure programs, including MBTA modernization and the BSAS construction portfolio, keeps demand for licensed and pre-licensure civil project engineers relatively steady across the sponsoring firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored civil project engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
