Which artificial intelligence companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Michigan?
Michigan's largest AI STEM OPT sponsors include Ford Motor Company and General Motors, both of which maintain dedicated AI research divisions in Dearborn and Warren focused on autonomous systems and predictive analytics. Stellantis, Waymo's Michigan operations, Bosch's Ann Arbor engineering center, and University of Michigan-affiliated tech spinoffs also have documented STEM OPT sponsorship histories. Reviewing OFLC Labor Condition Application disclosure data helps confirm which employers have actively filed for AI roles.
Which cities in Michigan have the most artificial intelligence F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Ann Arbor leads Michigan for AI STEM OPT opportunities, driven by the University of Michigan's research ecosystem and a dense cluster of deep-tech startups. Detroit and Dearborn follow closely, anchored by automotive OEMs investing heavily in machine learning and computer vision. Troy and Grand Rapids are emerging secondary markets where suppliers and healthcare technology firms are expanding AI teams that qualify for STEM OPT designation.
How do I find artificial intelligence F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 students seeking STEM OPT sponsorship, and you can filter directly by visa type, state, and industry to surface verified Michigan artificial intelligence roles. Because Migrate Mate indexes employer LCA filing history, you can see which Michigan AI employers have a documented record of sponsoring F-1 STEM OPT candidates rather than relying on job descriptions that may not disclose sponsorship willingness upfront.
What types of artificial intelligence roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Michigan?
Roles that commonly qualify include machine learning engineer, computer vision scientist, natural language processing researcher, AI software developer, robotics perception engineer, and data scientist positions tied to CIP codes in computer science, electrical engineering, or statistics. Michigan employers frequently sponsor these titles within automotive autonomy, manufacturing automation, and healthcare diagnostics divisions. The position must be directly related to your STEM degree field for STEM OPT eligibility, so reviewing the O*NET classification for your specific role is a practical first step.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in AI roles?
Michigan's AI hiring is heavily shaped by automotive transformation, meaning many STEM OPT positions sit inside mobility, embedded systems, or manufacturing intelligence teams rather than standalone software companies. This matters because some employers in these divisions are subject to E-Verify enrollment requirements tied to federal contracts, which is a prerequisite for STEM OPT extensions. Confirming a prospective employer's E-Verify status before accepting an offer is an important step for F-1 students planning to use their 24-month STEM OPT extension.
