INTRODUCTION
PsiQuantum’s mission is to build the first useful quantum computers—machines capable of delivering the breakthroughs the field has long promised. Since our founding in 2016, our singular focus has been to build and deploy million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum systems. Quantum computers harness the laws of quantum mechanics to solve problems that even the most advanced supercomputers or AI systems will never reach. Their impact will span energy, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, transportation, materials, and other foundational industries. Our architecture and approach is based on silicon photonics. By leveraging the advanced semiconductor manufacturing industry—including partners like GlobalFoundries—we use the same high-volume processes that already produce billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics. Photonics offers natural advantages for scale: photons don’t feel heat, are immune to electromagnetic interference, and integrate with existing cryogenic cooling and standard fiber-optic infrastructure. In 2024, PsiQuantum announced government-funded projects to support the build-out of our first utility-scale quantum computers in Brisbane, Australia, and Chicago, Illinois. These initiatives reflect a growing recognition that quantum computing will be strategically and economically defining—and that now is the time to scale. PsiQuantum also develops the algorithms and software needed to make these systems commercially valuable. Our application, software, and industry teams work directly with leading Fortune 500 companies—including Lockheed Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Mitsubishi Chemical—to prepare quantum solutions for real-world impact. Quantum computing is not an extension of classical computing. It represents a fundamental shift—and a path to mastering challenges that cannot be solved any other way. The potential is enormous, and we have a clear path to make it real. Come join us.
JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Process Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the module assembly processes and maintenance of typical back-end semiconductor packaging equipment and supporting Process Engineers on the development of key assembly steps leading to R&D and volume system process solutions at PsiQuantum. Responsibilities
- By working with process engineers; fabricate and assemble electro-optical devices, including die attach, wire-bonding and inspection, with a focus on precision and quality.
- Under the guidance of Process Engineers, co-design and co-develop assembly process flow, and build subassemblies for QC sub-systems with electronics and silicon photonics chips on PCBAs for both cryogenic and room temperature vacuum systems.
- Lead and manage assembly and testing tools to ensure optimal performance and throughput.
- Develop and implement “best practice” to enhance product integrity and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and manufacturing, to streamline assembly design and production.
- Conduct complex troubleshooting and analysis of assembly equipment to resolve technical issues.
- Document processes, results, deviations from the standard operating procedures and lessons learned, contributing to continuous improvements.
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Ability to use data processing tools such as Python and JMP to assist Process Engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to support short deadline tasks, and to follow a disciplined work process. Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with back-end semiconductor assembly processes, testing methodologies and equipment, including die attach, wire-bonding, visual inspection.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure environments.
- Positive attitude and always open to learn new knowledge and operation of new equipment.
- Good team worker and bring in positive attitude and always ready to help others.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree or equivalent experience in engineering, physics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience applying engineering principles to solve complex opto-mechanical assembly process problems.
- Exposure to photonics sub-assembly with experience in semiconductor packaging and inspection equipment, processes and material system (die attach, wire bonding, optical coupling, flip chip, underfill … etc.).
- Familiar with key opto-mechanical packaging and assembly equipment and part supplier base and the quality system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Self-starter.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Which artificial intelligence companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in California?
Major California-based AI employers with documented F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship histories include Google, Meta, Apple, NVIDIA, and Salesforce, along with AI-focused companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Scale AI. Mid-size firms in the Bay Area and Los Angeles also regularly sponsor OPT students for roles in machine learning engineering, data science, and AI research, particularly when the position carries a STEM-designated STEM degree classification.
Which cities in California have the most artificial intelligence F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader South Bay, including Mountain View, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and San Jose, account for the largest share of AI STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in California. Los Angeles has grown significantly, driven by AI research labs and tech companies in Silicon Beach. San Diego also has an emerging AI sector tied to biotech and defense-adjacent research, offering additional qualifying opportunities.
What types of artificial intelligence roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly qualify include machine learning engineer, AI research scientist, computer vision engineer, natural language processing engineer, data scientist, and AI platform engineer. Qualification depends on the STEM degree classification the employer assigns to the position, it must fall under a STEM-designated occupation category as listed by ICE. Titles alone don't determine eligibility; the underlying occupational classification does, so reviewing the role's STEM degree classification matters.
How do I find artificial intelligence F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for AI roles in California offered by employers with verified F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, saving you from applying to companies that don't sponsor. You can search by job function, such as machine learning or computer vision, and narrow results to cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego. This makes it easier to identify which employers have actually filed LCAs for AI positions rather than relying on unverified job postings.
Are there any California-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in artificial intelligence?
California's competitive AI hiring market means many employers are experienced with STEM OPT authorization and STEM extension filings, which can make the process more straightforward at larger firms. However, California's high concentration of startups means some employers may lack prior OPT sponsorship experience. It's worth confirming that a prospective employer is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT extension eligibility, before accepting an offer.
