Search Education Jobs in MichiganEducation STEM OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
Which education companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Michigan?
In Michigan, education-sector F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship is most common at large research universities such as the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University, which regularly file Labor Condition Applications for STEM-designated roles. Ed-tech companies and curriculum technology providers headquartered in the Ann Arbor and Detroit metro areas also appear in DOL disclosure data as active sponsors for qualifying technical positions.
Which cities in Michigan have the most education F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Ann Arbor and East Lansing generate the highest concentration of education F-1 STEM OPT opportunities in Michigan, driven by the University of Michigan and Michigan State University campuses. Detroit is a growing secondary market, particularly for ed-tech firms and workforce development organizations. Grand Rapids has a smaller but emerging presence, with a number of higher-education institutions and educational nonprofits that post STEM-eligible roles in data and instructional technology.
What types of education roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles must carry a Standard Occupational Classification code that appears on the official STEM OPT designated-degree list published by DHS. In the education industry, positions commonly qualifying include data analyst, learning systems engineer, instructional technology specialist, educational software developer, and institutional research analyst. Purely administrative or general teaching roles typically do not qualify unless the position explicitly requires and applies a STEM degree in the core duties.
How do I find education F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search: it filters Michigan education employers by verified F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history using DOL Labor Condition Application data, so you can see which institutions and ed-tech companies have actively sponsored STEM OPT workers in roles matching your field. Filtering by the Education category and Michigan location on Migrate Mate surfaces current openings at universities, curriculum platforms, and learning technology firms that have a documented sponsorship track record.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Michigan's education sector?
Michigan employers sponsoring F-1 STEM OPT workers must enroll in E-Verify, a federal requirement for all STEM OPT extensions regardless of state. Michigan's large public university system means many sponsoring employers are government entities subject to additional HR compliance layers, which can extend onboarding timelines. International student offices at Michigan institutions are generally experienced with STEM OPT paperwork, but the formal sponsorship agreement and E-Verify enrollment obligation rests with the employing department, not the international office.
