Which companies sponsor visas for nurse practitioners in Michigan?
Michigan's largest health systems are the most active sponsors for nurse practitioner roles. Henry Ford Health, Michigan Medicine (the University of Michigan's academic medical center), Beaumont Health, Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, and McLaren Health Care have all supported H-1B visa and other work visa petitions for clinical advanced practice providers. Federally Qualified Health Centers operating in Michigan's underserved areas also sponsor NPs, particularly for shortage area placements.
Which visa types are most common for nurse practitioner roles in Michigan?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for nurse practitioners in Michigan, as the NP role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a graduate-level degree. Some NPs from Canada or Mexico pursue TN visa status under the USMCA, which lists registered nurses but requires careful review for advanced practice roles. EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship is also pursued by some Michigan health systems for longer-term international hires.
Which cities in Michigan have the most nurse practitioner sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its metro suburbs, including Dearborn, Royal Oak, and Troy, account for the largest share of Michigan's NP sponsorship openings given the concentration of Henry Ford Health and Beaumont facilities. Ann Arbor is a strong second due to Michigan Medicine's academic health complex. Grand Rapids has grown significantly through Spectrum Health and its affiliated clinics, while Lansing and Flint have openings tied to federally designated shortage area incentives.
How to find nurse practitioner visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters nurse practitioner roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. Search the Migrate Mate job board filtered to Michigan and the nurse practitioner category to see active openings from health systems and clinics that have a documented history of sponsoring international clinical hires.
Are there state-specific considerations for nurse practitioner visa sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan is a full-practice authority state, meaning nurse practitioners can evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe independently without a physician collaboration agreement. This increases your marketability to smaller clinics and rural health centers that may not have a supervising physician on-site, broadening the pool of employers able to onboard you directly. Michigan also has a substantial number of Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can make NP roles eligible for certain federal incentive programs that attract additional employer interest in hiring and retaining qualified providers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nurse practitioner jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
