Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Nebraska?
HDR, Inc., headquartered in Omaha, is one of the most prominent sponsors of structural engineers in Nebraska and files H-1B petitions regularly. Other firms with sponsorship histories include Olsson, Inc. and Burns & McDonnell's regional operations. Larger construction and engineering consultancies with Nebraska offices are generally more likely to sponsor than smaller local firms, given the administrative infrastructure required to support the H-1B process.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B visa is the primary pathway for structural project engineers in Nebraska, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Some Canadian and Mexican nationals in this field pursue TN visa status under the USMCA, which allows engineers to work in the U.S. without going through the H-1B lottery. O-1 visas are rare but possible for engineers with exceptional, documented accomplishments.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find structural project engineer roles in Nebraska where employers are open to visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through general job listings, Migrate Mate filters specifically for sponsorship-friendly postings, saving you significant time. Focus your search on Omaha and Lincoln, where the density of engineering consultancies is highest. Verifying an employer's H-1B filing history through public Department of Labor disclosure data is also a useful step before applying.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha is by far the strongest market for structural project engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Nebraska. It hosts the headquarters of HDR, Inc., along with regional offices for several national engineering firms. Lincoln, as the state capital, offers additional opportunities tied to state infrastructure projects and university-adjacent development. Smaller cities like Kearney or Grand Island have limited openings and fewer employers with the infrastructure to manage international sponsorship.
Are there state-specific factors structural project engineers should know about working in Nebraska?
Nebraska's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are set at the federal level using Department of Labor wage data for the Omaha or Lincoln metropolitan statistical areas, which reflect regional market rates rather than national figures. The University of Nebraska system also produces a steady pipeline of civil and structural engineering graduates, so international candidates benefit from differentiating with specialized experience in areas like bridge design, seismic analysis, or heavy civil infrastructure that the local graduate pool may not cover.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
