Which companies sponsor visas for mental health therapists in New Jersey?
Large health systems including RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, and Atlantic Health System have histories of sponsoring work visas for clinical roles, including mental health therapists. Community mental health organizations and federally qualified health centers across the state also sponsor international candidates, particularly for positions in underserved areas where licensed clinician shortages are most acute.
Which visa types are most common for mental health therapy roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed mental health therapists in New Jersey, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field. The J-1 visa is also used, particularly through exchange visitor programs affiliated with hospitals or academic medical centers. Candidates with relevant credentials should confirm their specific licensure meets New Jersey state requirements before applying.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most mental health therapy sponsorship jobs?
Newark, Jersey City, and Trenton concentrate the highest number of mental health therapy positions tied to sponsoring employers, largely because of the density of hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and community behavioral health agencies in those areas. Camden and New Brunswick are also notable, with University Hospital and Rutgers Health operating significant behavioral health programs that have sponsored international clinical staff.
How to find mental health therapy visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find mental health therapy visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey. The platform filters roles specifically by sponsorship availability, so you can focus on New Jersey-based employers actively open to international candidates rather than sorting through listings that don't address visa support. Filtering by clinical or behavioral health categories will surface the most relevant therapy roles across the state.
Are there any state-specific considerations for mental health therapists seeking sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires mental health therapists to hold state licensure, such as the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential, before practicing independently. International candidates should confirm their foreign credentials are evaluated and accepted by the New Jersey State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners or the relevant licensing board. Some employers sponsor candidates who are license-eligible but may require licensure completion within a defined period after hiring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health therapy jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
