Which companies sponsor visas for automation engineers in New York?
Large manufacturers, pharmaceutical firms, and tech companies are among the most active sponsors for automation engineers in New York. Employers including Pfizer, IBM, Siemens, and Honeywell have filed H-1B visa petitions for automation-related roles in the state. Utility companies and defense contractors operating in upstate New York also regularly sponsor international candidates for controls and systems automation positions.
Which visa types are most common for automation engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for automation engineers in New York, given that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN visa status under the engineer category. Australian nationals with qualifying degrees can pursue the E-3 visa. All three categories require employer sponsorship and a confirmed job offer before filing.
Which cities in New York have the most automation engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City holds the highest concentration of sponsorship roles, particularly in pharmaceutical manufacturing, fintech infrastructure, and building automation systems. Buffalo has a growing advanced manufacturing base tied to semiconductor and clean energy investments, including the Buffalo-Niagara region's expanding industrial footprint. Albany sees demand from semiconductor fabrication facilities and state-affiliated research institutions. Each corridor attracts distinct industry verticals for automation talent.
How to find automation engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse automation engineer roles posted by New York employers who have a documented history of sponsoring international candidates. Rather than manually researching individual companies, you can search directly for automation engineer positions in New York and review sponsorship details alongside each listing. This saves significant time during an active job search.
Are there state-specific factors automation engineers should know about visa sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements apply to all H-1B and E-3 visa positions, meaning employers must pay the wage level set by the Department of Labor for the specific occupation and geographic area. Automation engineers in the New York City metro area fall under a higher prevailing wage determination than upstate locations. New York also has a strong university pipeline through Cornell, Columbia, and RPI that feeds employer sponsorship demand, particularly for controls and systems engineering roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automation engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
