Which companies sponsor visas for automation engineers in Minnesota?
Minnesota's largest visa sponsors for automation engineers include 3M, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, General Mills, Eaton, and Emerson. These companies have consistent H-1B filing histories with the Department of Labor. Medical device and food manufacturing firms drive much of the demand, alongside defense contractors and industrial equipment companies headquartered in the Twin Cities metro area.
Which visa types are most common for automation engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for automation engineers in Minnesota, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering. Some employers also sponsor TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering credentials, and O-1 visas are available for candidates with documented exceptional achievement.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most automation engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro accounts for the majority of automation engineer sponsorship activity in Minnesota, particularly in suburbs like Eden Prairie, Plymouth, and Minnetonka where many manufacturing headquarters are located. Rochester has a secondary concentration tied to medical device and healthcare technology employers. Duluth and Saint Cloud have smaller but active industrial manufacturing sectors with periodic sponsorship openings.
How to find automation engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse automation engineer openings in Minnesota without sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. You can filter by state and job category to surface positions at Minnesota employers with active H-1B or TN sponsorship histories, saving significant time compared to reviewing unfiltered job listings.
Are there any state-specific considerations for automation engineers seeking sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 manufacturers and medical device companies means prevailing wage determinations for automation engineers are benchmarked against a skilled regional workforce, so offered compensation must meet Department of Labor wage levels for the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan statistical area. University of Minnesota and Minnesota State graduates create a strong local pipeline, so international candidates with specialized PLC, SCADA, or robotics skills tend to stand out in applications.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automation engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
