Search Automation Engineer Jobs in MassachusettsAutomation Engineer Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for automation engineers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts employers with consistent H-1B visa sponsorship records for automation engineers include Raytheon Technologies, Boston Scientific, Analog Devices, Cognex, and Waters Corporation. Larger defense and medical device manufacturers tend to have established immigration processes and work with outside counsel regularly. Smaller robotics and industrial automation firms in the Route 128 corridor also sponsor, though less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for automation engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for automation engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. TN visa status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering degrees. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT are also actively recruited by Massachusetts employers who want to extend their work authorization.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most automation engineer sponsorship jobs?
Greater Boston, including Cambridge and Waltham, accounts for the largest share of automation engineer sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, driven by the concentration of biotech, defense, and semiconductor companies. Lowell and Andover are notable for industrial automation and electronics manufacturing employers along the Route 495 corridor. Worcester also has a growing presence through medical device and manufacturing firms with engineering teams.
How to find automation engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify Massachusetts employers actively open to sponsoring automation engineers rather than sorting through listings that don't address sponsorship at all. You can search by role and state to surface relevant openings at companies in the Boston metro, Route 128 corridor, and beyond. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job boards.
Are there state-specific factors automation engineers should know about sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a strong university pipeline through MIT, Northeastern, and UMass Lowell, which means many employers in the state are already familiar with OPT and H-1B processes. The state's concentration in defense, medical devices, and semiconductor manufacturing means automation engineer roles often involve specialized equipment knowledge that strengthens specialty occupation arguments in H-1B petitions. Prevailing wage determinations for automation engineers in the Boston metro tend to reflect the area's higher cost of living.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automation engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
