Which visa types are most common for data analytics engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for data analytics engineers in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may be eligible for the TN visa under the software engineer or systems analyst categories. L-1B visas are also used when a candidate transfers intracompany from an overseas office.
Which cities in New York have the most data analytics engineer sponsorship jobs?

Are there any New York-specific considerations for data analytics engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
New York's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B and E-3 visa Labor Condition Applications reflect the high cost of living in the metro area, meaning employers must pay at or above the Department of Labor's determined wage levels for the region. The depth of New York's university pipeline, including graduates from NYU, Columbia, and Cornell Tech, means competition for sponsored roles can be strong. Candidates with experience in financial data systems, real-time analytics, or SQL-based data modeling tend to align well with the industries that dominate New York's sponsorship activity.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data analytics engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
