Which companies sponsor visas for electrical project engineers in New York?
Large engineering and construction firms with consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories in New York include AECOM, WSP Global, Jacobs Engineering, Parsons Corporation, and Con Edison. Utility infrastructure projects across the state also draw sponsorship from firms like Leidos and Thornton Tomasetti. DOL LCA disclosure data confirms these employers have filed petitions for electrical engineering roles in New York in recent years.
Which visa types are most common for electrical project engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical project engineers in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa, and those from Canada or Mexico may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA, which covers engineers without a cap or lottery.
Which cities in New York have the most electrical project engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of electrical project engineer sponsorship jobs in the state, driven by large-scale MEP, transit, and commercial construction projects. Buffalo has growing demand tied to semiconductor and clean energy investment, particularly around the Buffalo Billion initiative. Albany and White Plains also see consistent activity from utility and infrastructure engineering firms operating in the greater Hudson Valley region.
How to find electrical project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by role and state to see electrical project engineer positions in New York where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing job postings that rarely specify sponsorship upfront. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on roles relevant to international candidates, so the listings are already screened for sponsorship context.
Are there state-specific factors that affect electrical project engineer sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements under DOL rules mean sponsoring employers must pay at least the federally determined wage for the role and location, which in New York City tends to reflect a high-cost market. The state's active infrastructure investment, including MTA capital programs and offshore wind development, creates sustained engineering hiring cycles that support sponsorship. Candidates with power systems or renewable energy experience are particularly competitive in this market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical project engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
