Which companies sponsor visas for project controls engineers in New York?
Engineering and construction firms with large New York project portfolios are the most consistent sponsors. AECOM, Parsons, Jacobs, Turner Construction, and HNTB have all filed H-1B visa petitions for project controls roles. Public-sector contractors working on MTA capital programs and Port Authority infrastructure projects are particularly active, as multi-year program schedules justify the time and cost of sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for project controls engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project controls engineers in New York, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with relevant degrees from Canadian or Mexican institutions may qualify for TN visa status. Those with extraordinary achievements in program management or cost engineering may be eligible for O-1A consideration, though that pathway requires substantial documented recognition.
Which cities in New York have the most project controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the large majority of project controls engineering sponsorship activity in the state, driven by ongoing MTA, Port Authority, and private development programs. Albany sees demand tied to state infrastructure and utility capital programs. Buffalo has growing activity connected to semiconductor and clean energy investments, including the TSMC-adjacent supply chain build-out in western New York.
How to find project controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search project controls engineer roles in New York without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from engineering, construction, and infrastructure employers actively filing sponsorship petitions. Filtering by New York state on Migrate Mate will show you current openings relevant to this role and location.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for project controls engineers in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements under both federal LCA rules and state public works law mean employers on government-funded projects must pay documented wage levels for sponsored workers. Project controls engineers on MTA or Port Authority contracts may fall under additional compliance requirements. New York also has a strong pipeline of internationally trained engineers from programs at Columbia, NYU Tandon, and CUNY, which influences how employers approach sponsorship for this role.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project controls engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
