Which companies sponsor visas for civil project engineers in North Carolina?
Engineering and infrastructure firms are the primary visa sponsors for civil project engineers in North Carolina. Companies with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories in the state include AECOM, Kimley-Horn, HNTB, CDM Smith, and WSP. The North Carolina Department of Transportation also contracts with many of these firms on large-scale projects, creating consistent demand for sponsored engineers on transportation, water, and site development work.
Which visa types are most common for civil project engineers in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for civil project engineers in North Carolina, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Engineers from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa. Canadian and Mexican nationals can pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, as civil engineering is a listed TN profession. Each category has distinct employer filing requirements.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most civil project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Raleigh and the broader Research Triangle area generate the highest concentration of civil project engineer sponsorship opportunities in North Carolina, driven by rapid population growth and infrastructure investment. Charlotte is a close second, with active transportation and urban development projects. Durham, Greensboro, and Cary also see consistent demand, particularly through large engineering consultancies supporting municipal and state-level contracts.
How to find civil project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers seeking visa sponsorship, and filters job listings by role and state so you can browse civil project engineer openings in North Carolina directly. Because not every employer advertises sponsorship willingness upfront, Migrate Mate focuses the search on employers with verified sponsorship histories, saving time for candidates on visa timelines like OPT or who are between H-1B lottery cycles.
Are there state-specific factors civil project engineers should know about sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's university system, including NC State's strong civil engineering program, creates a well-developed pipeline of international graduates seeking OPT and H-1B sponsorship. The state's active NCDOT project pipeline and Research Triangle growth mean engineering firms here file H-1B petitions regularly. Prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B mean employers must pay the DOL-determined wage for the role and location, which is publicly verifiable through DOL disclosure data.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored civil project engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
