Which companies sponsor visas for data science engineers in North Carolina?
Major sponsors in North Carolina include SAS Institute in Cary, Lenovo and Red Hat in Research Triangle Park, Cisco in RTP, and Bank of America in Charlotte. Healthcare systems like UNC Health and Duke Health also sponsor data science engineering roles. These employers have consistent H-1B filing histories with the Department of Labor and hire internationally for data engineering, machine learning, and analytics infrastructure positions.
Which visa types are most common for data science engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for data science engineers in North Carolina, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, statistics, or a related field. L-1B visas apply when engineers transfer internally within multinational companies like Lenovo or Cisco. OPT and STEM OPT also see significant use among graduates from NC State, Duke, and UNC Chapel Hill.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most data science engineer sponsorship jobs?
Research Triangle Park, spanning Raleigh, Durham, and Cary, concentrates the majority of data science engineering sponsorship activity in the state. Charlotte is the second-largest market, driven by financial services and healthtech companies. Greensboro and Winston-Salem have smaller but growing technology employer bases. RTP's density of tech, pharmaceutical, and government research organizations makes it the most active sponsorship corridor in North Carolina.
How to find data science engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate lets you filter data science engineer jobs specifically by visa sponsorship availability and state, so you can browse verified North Carolina openings without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. The platform is built for international candidates, so every listing is screened for sponsorship willingness. Focusing your search on RTP-based employers and Charlotte's financial technology sector will surface the highest volume of active opportunities.
Are there any North Carolina-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for data science engineers?
North Carolina's Research Triangle Park location means many sponsoring employers are either large technology firms or federally funded research institutions, both of which tend to have established immigration support processes. Proximity to NC State, Duke, and UNC Chapel Hill creates a pipeline of OPT-eligible candidates that many local employers actively recruit. Prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the Department of Labor based on the RTP and Charlotte metropolitan area wage levels for the specific role and experience tier.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
