Which companies sponsor visas for system administrators in North Carolina?
North Carolina's largest visa sponsors for system administrator roles include Cisco Systems and IBM in Research Triangle Park, Red Hat in Raleigh, and Bank of America in Charlotte. Healthcare systems like Duke University Health System and UNC Health also sponsor IT infrastructure roles. Defense contractors around Fayetteville and technology firms in the Durham-Chapel Hill corridor round out the sponsorship market.
Which visa types are most common for system administrator roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for system administrators in North Carolina, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. TN visas cover Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying system analyst roles. Employers occasionally sponsor L-1B visas for intracompany transferees with specialized technical knowledge of proprietary systems.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most system administrator sponsorship jobs?
Raleigh and Durham within the Research Triangle Park area generate the highest concentration of system administrator sponsorship opportunities, driven by technology companies, research universities, and state government agencies. Charlotte follows closely due to its financial services sector, which maintains large IT infrastructure teams. Smaller but active markets include Chapel Hill, Cary, and the Greensboro-Winston-Salem corridor, where manufacturing and logistics firms hire systems staff.
How to find system administrator visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search system administrator openings in North Carolina without sifting through roles that won't support an international hire. Filtering by city helps narrow results to Research Triangle or Charlotte employers, who sponsor the most frequently. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer sponsorship history, giving you a clearer picture of which companies have an active track record of filing petitions for IT roles.
Are there any state-specific considerations for system administrator sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's Research Triangle Park hosts a high density of H-1B-dependent employers, meaning some companies face stricter attestation requirements under Department of Labor rules when hiring internationally. The region's strong university pipeline from NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke means employers are accustomed to OPT-to-H-1B transitions for IT roles. Prevailing wage determinations for system administrators in the Raleigh metro are set by the Department of Labor and vary by experience level and specific job duties.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored system administrator jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
