Which companies in Oklahoma sponsor visas for backend software developers?
Energy majors like Devon Energy, ONEOK, and Williams Companies have technology divisions in Oklahoma City and Tulsa that regularly sponsor backend developers. Defense and aerospace contractors near Tulsa, including AMSEC and L3Harris facilities, also file H-1B petitions. Larger healthcare systems such as INTEGRIS Health and regional fintech firms round out the Oklahoma employer pool for sponsored backend roles.
Which visa types are most common for backend software developer roles in Oklahoma?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for backend software developers in Oklahoma, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extensions are also frequently hired by Oklahoma employers who then pursue H-1B sponsorship. The O-1A is an option for developers with an exceptional record of technical achievement.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most backend software developer sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City and Tulsa account for the vast majority of backend developer sponsorship activity in the state. Oklahoma City hosts corporate technology teams in energy, healthcare, and financial services, while Tulsa's aerospace and manufacturing base drives demand for backend engineers supporting operational and data platforms. Norman and Stillwater occasionally see sponsored roles tied to the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University research ecosystems.
How to find backend software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse backend software developer roles in Oklahoma without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location to focus on Oklahoma City or Tulsa and filter by backend-relevant tech stacks. Setting up alerts on Migrate Mate ensures you're notified when new sponsored backend roles in Oklahoma are posted.
Are there any state-specific considerations for backend software developers seeking visa sponsorship in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's economy is heavily tied to energy, aerospace, and agriculture technology, so backend developers with experience in data pipelines, IoT systems, or operational software tend to be in stronger demand here than in purely consumer-tech markets. Employers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the specific role and location, which is determined by the Oklahoma City or Tulsa wage surveys. University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University also generate a pipeline of international graduates that local employers actively recruit from.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software developer jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
