Which companies in Oregon sponsor visas for data engineers?
Portland-headquartered companies including Nike, Adidas North America, and Intel have established histories of sponsoring H-1B visas for data engineering roles. Larger tech-adjacent employers like Daimler Truck North America and healthcare systems such as Providence and OHSU also sponsor for data and analytics positions. Oregon's mid-size SaaS companies and fintech firms participate in sponsorship less consistently, so researching individual employers matters.
What visa types are most common for data engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa category for data engineers in Oregon. Because data engineering typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field, roles generally meet the specialty occupation standard H-1B requires. Candidates already on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension also fill data engineering roles while employers initiate H-1B sponsorship.
How to find data engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse data engineer roles in Oregon without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. Because Oregon's sponsoring employers range from large multinationals in Portland to specialized tech firms in Hillsboro and Bend, using a sponsorship-focused search on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to general job searches.
Which Oregon cities have the most data engineer visa sponsorship opportunities?
Portland concentrates the majority of Oregon's data engineering sponsorship activity, driven by its density of technology, retail, and healthcare employers. Hillsboro, home to Intel's largest U.S. campus, is a secondary hub with consistent demand for engineers working on data infrastructure and semiconductor analytics. Eugene and Bend have smaller but growing tech communities, though sponsorship opportunities there are less frequent than in the Portland metro area.
Are there any Oregon-specific factors data engineers should know before pursuing sponsorship?
Oregon employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the specific role and location, which is calculated at the county level. Portland metro prevailing wages for data engineers reflect a high-cost market, so offers from Oregon-based employers typically align with competitive regional rates. Oregon's active university ecosystem, particularly Oregon State University and Portland State University, means employers are accustomed to hiring internationally and navigating the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
