Which companies sponsor visas for data engineers in Pennsylvania?
Comcast and Comcast Technology Solutions in Philadelphia are among the most active sponsors, alongside financial services firms like SEI Investments and Vanguard. In Pittsburgh, companies including Duolingo, Argo AI alumni-founded startups, and UPMC Health System have sponsored data engineering roles. Consulting firms such as Deloitte and Accenture, which maintain large Pennsylvania offices, also file H-1B petitions for data engineers regularly.
Which visa types are most common for data engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for data engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Some international candidates also enter through OPT or STEM OPT extensions after graduating from Pennsylvania universities, which can bridge the gap while an employer files an H-1B petition.
How to find data engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search data engineer roles in Pennsylvania without sifting through positions that don't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from employers with established sponsorship histories in cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, which is particularly useful given how inconsistently companies disclose sponsorship willingness in standard job postings.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most data engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of data engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and media companies. Pittsburgh has grown significantly as a technical hub, with strength in AI research, autonomous systems, and healthcare informatics. The Philadelphia suburbs, particularly the Route 202 corridor in King of Prussia and Malvern, also host substantial technology operations for firms like Vanguard and SAP.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations for data engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania has a strong university pipeline, with Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State, and Drexel University producing significant numbers of international graduate students in data and computer science fields. Many Pennsylvania employers are familiar with sponsoring graduates from these programs. Data engineering roles in the state's dominant industries, including healthcare, financial services, and insurance technology, often require familiarity with regulated data environments, which can strengthen a sponsorship case by demonstrating specialized, non-easily-sourced expertise.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
