Which companies sponsor visas for design engineers in Oregon?
Intel is Oregon's largest sponsor of design engineer visas, with extensive H-1B filings tied to its Hillsboro fabrication and R&D campuses. Nike sponsors design engineers focused on product and materials engineering in Beaverton. Precision Castparts, Daimler Trucks North America, and Lattice Semiconductor also have documented sponsorship histories for engineering roles across the Portland metro area.
Which visa types are most common for design engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for design engineers in Oregon, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering. Candidates with extraordinary achievements may qualify for the O-1A. Canadians and Mexicans with engineering degrees may also be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA, which requires no petition and has no annual cap.
How to find design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find design engineer roles in Oregon where employers are open to sponsoring. You can search by role and state to surface positions at companies like Intel, Nike, and others across the Hillsboro-Portland corridor. This saves significant time compared to manually screening postings that don't address sponsorship.
Which cities in Oregon have the most design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Hillsboro leads due to Intel's semiconductor operations, which generate consistent demand for electrical and hardware design engineers. Portland follows closely, with manufacturing, clean energy, and technology firms spanning the metro area. Beaverton is notable for product-focused design engineering at Nike's world headquarters. Eugene and Corvallis see smaller volumes, often tied to university-affiliated research and regional manufacturing companies.
Are there any Oregon-specific factors design engineers should know about visa sponsorship?
Oregon's semiconductor and advanced manufacturing concentration means prevailing wage requirements are benchmarked against highly specialized engineering roles, so employers filing Labor Condition Applications are typically offering competitive compensation aligned with those standards. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon also feed regional employer pipelines, and some graduates on OPT transition into sponsored roles at companies like Intel that have established university recruiting programs in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored design engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
