Which companies in Oregon sponsor visas for IT support engineers?
Intel's large campus in Hillsboro is among the most active sponsors for IT support roles in Oregon, alongside Nike at its Beaverton headquarters and Providence Health & Services across the Portland metro. State government agencies and Oregon's public universities, including Oregon State University and the University of Oregon, also have established sponsorship histories for IT support positions supporting campus infrastructure.
Which visa types are most commonly used for IT support engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for IT support engineers in Oregon, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field like computer science or information systems. Some employers also use the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA. Roles that are primarily hands-on break-fix or tier-1 helpdesk support can sometimes face H-1B specialty occupation scrutiny, so degree alignment matters.

Portland and the surrounding Washington County corridor, including Beaverton and Hillsboro, account for the majority of IT support engineer sponsorship opportunities in Oregon. This concentration reflects Intel's large operations and the broader tech presence in the area. Salem has openings through state government IT departments, and Eugene sees activity through the University of Oregon and PeaceHealth's regional health system.

Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for IT support engineers seeking visa sponsorship?

The Intel campus in Hillsboro drives significant demand for IT infrastructure support, creating a regional pipeline from local universities like Portland State University and Oregon State University. Candidates with networking certifications alongside a relevant degree tend to be better positioned for specialty occupation determinations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it support engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
