Which companies in Oregon sponsor visas for principal-level roles?
Intel's Hillsboro campus is one of Oregon's most active sponsors for principal engineer and principal architect roles, given the scale of its semiconductor operations in the state. Nike, based in Beaverton, sponsors principal designers and technologists. Portland-area employers like Daimler Trucks North America, Precision Castparts, and several healthcare systems also have documented sponsorship histories for senior technical and operational positions.
What visa types are most commonly used for principal roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for principal-level roles in Oregon, particularly for engineering, software, and product titles that qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Candidates with extraordinary ability in their field may also qualify for the O-1A. Some principal roles at multinational companies, particularly at Intel or Nike's international divisions, may be filled through L-1A or L-1B intracompany transfers.
Which cities in Oregon have the most principal-level visa sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the surrounding metro area, including Beaverton and Hillsboro, account for the large majority of principal sponsorship activity in Oregon. Hillsboro alone hosts Intel's largest U.S. campus, generating significant demand for principal engineers. Eugene has a smaller but active technology and university research presence through the University of Oregon. Outside these metros, principal-level sponsorship opportunities are limited.
How to find principal visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse principal roles in Oregon without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. Given that sponsorship for principal-level roles in Oregon is concentrated among a relatively small group of large employers, using Migrate Mate to identify active sponsors in Portland, Beaverton, and Hillsboro saves significant research time compared to manually vetting individual listings.
Are there state-specific considerations for principal roles in Oregon?
Oregon does not have a state income tax advantage or specific immigration incentive, but its strong semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sectors, anchored by Intel's Washington County operations, create consistent demand for principal engineers in chip design, process development, and systems architecture. The Oregon State University and University of Oregon pipelines also supply talent that shapes what employers expect at the principal level, particularly in engineering and computer science disciplines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
