Search Senior Software Development Engineer Jobs in OregonSenior Software Development Engineer Jobs in Oregon: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for senior software development engineers in Oregon?
Intel is Oregon's largest technology employer and files significant numbers of H-1B visa petitions annually, primarily from its Hillsboro campus. Nike's global technology division in Beaverton, Salesforce's Portland engineering offices, Amazon, and Daimler Trucks North America are also consistent sponsors. Smaller software companies including Puppet, Acquia, and iovation have sponsored senior engineering roles, though sponsorship frequency varies year to year.
Which visa types are most common for senior software development engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software development engineers in Oregon, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. L-1A and L-1B transfers are also used by multinationals like Intel and Salesforce for engineers moving from international offices. O-1 visa petitions appear occasionally for engineers with documented exceptional contributions.
Which cities in Oregon have the most senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the largest share of senior software development engineer sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentration of technology companies and startup ecosystem. Hillsboro is a close second due to Intel's large semiconductor and software engineering workforce there. Beaverton, home to Nike's technology teams, also generates consistent senior engineering openings. Eugene sees smaller but steady activity linked to the University of Oregon's technology transfer and research partnerships.
How to find senior software development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse senior software development engineer roles in Oregon without sorting through positions that don't support work authorization. Searching by Oregon and filtering for senior engineering titles on Migrate Mate surfaces employers actively filing petitions rather than those who may consider sponsorship only after an offer. Setting up alerts for new Oregon postings helps as senior roles often fill quickly.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for senior software development engineer sponsorship?
Oregon's Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations apply to H-1B petitions filed for Oregon worksites, and senior-level roles in the Portland and Hillsboro metro areas are benchmarked against competitive Pacific Northwest wages. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon supply a consistent OPT pipeline into local engineering teams, which means employers in cities like Corvallis and Portland are generally familiar with sponsorship processes. Intel's dominant presence in Washington County has also normalized the sponsorship workflow for many regional employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software development engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
