Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in South Carolina?
The most active sponsors for attorney roles in South Carolina include large regional law firms such as Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough, in-house legal departments at major manufacturers like BMW Manufacturing and Boeing, and healthcare institutions including MUSC Health. State and federal agencies generally do not sponsor work visas, so private sector and nonprofit employers are the primary pathway for internationally trained attorneys.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for attorneys in South Carolina, as legal positions typically meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a Juris Doctor or equivalent degree. Attorneys with an LL.M. from a U.S. law school and a passing score on the South Carolina Bar or a qualifying state bar may be eligible. The O-1A is an alternative for attorneys with demonstrated national or international recognition in their field.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Columbia has the highest concentration of attorney sponsorship opportunities, given its status as the state capital and home to the University of South Carolina School of Law. Charleston follows closely, driven by its growing corporate and healthcare legal sector. Greenville has seen increasing demand for in-house counsel as international manufacturers continue to expand operations in the Upstate region.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find attorney roles in South Carolina where employers are open to visa sponsorship. You can filter specifically for attorney positions in SC and review which firms and companies are actively hiring internationally. Because sponsorship willingness varies widely by employer, using a platform focused on sponsorship roles saves significant time compared to general job searches.
Are there state-specific considerations for attorneys seeking visa sponsorship in South Carolina?
Foreign-trained attorneys in South Carolina must evaluate bar admission eligibility before pursuing roles that require active licensure. South Carolina allows LL.M. graduates from ABA-accredited programs to sit for the bar under certain conditions. Employers in the Upstate manufacturing corridor, anchored by BMW and Michelin, frequently hire international attorneys for compliance and trade-related work, making that region particularly relevant for attorneys with international law backgrounds.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
