Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa for attorneys in Florida, as legal positions at law firms and corporate legal departments typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a Juris Doctor degree. The O-1A is an option for attorneys with exceptional recognition in their field. Foreign attorneys from Australia may pursue the E-3, and those from Canada or Mexico may qualify under the TN visa in the 'Lawyer' category.
Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Florida?
Large law firms with Florida offices, including Greenberg Traurig, Holland and Knight, and Akerman, have established histories of sponsoring foreign-national attorneys. Corporate legal departments at major Florida-headquartered companies in healthcare, finance, and real estate also sponsor attorneys. International companies with Florida operations, particularly those focused on Latin American trade and finance centered in Miami, are notable sponsors as well.
Which cities in Florida have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads Florida for attorney sponsorship opportunities, driven by its role as a hub for international business, banking, and Latin American trade law. Orlando and Tampa follow, with demand centered on healthcare law, corporate counsel, and real estate. Fort Lauderdale also generates consistent openings, particularly in maritime law and insurance defense, given its proximity to Miami's international legal market.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters attorney roles in Florida specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through postings that won't support foreign nationals. The platform surfaces openings at law firms, corporate legal departments, and government-adjacent organizations across Miami, Tampa, and Orlando. Because attorney sponsorship requires bar admission considerations alongside visa eligibility, Migrate Mate's focused listings help you identify employers already familiar with sponsoring legal professionals.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for attorneys seeking visa sponsorship?
Florida Bar admission is required to practice law in Florida, which means foreign-trained attorneys must navigate both visa sponsorship and bar eligibility simultaneously. Attorneys educated outside the U.S. may need to complete an LL.M. degree from a Florida-accredited law school before sitting for the Florida Bar exam. Florida's large international business community, particularly in Miami, does create genuine employer demand for multilingual attorneys with cross-border legal expertise, which can strengthen a sponsorship case.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
