Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Indiana?
Large Indianapolis-based law firms such as Ice Miller, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath, and Barnes & Thornburg have historically sponsored attorneys on work visas. Corporate legal departments at Indiana-headquartered companies in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing also sponsor attorney roles. University general counsel offices, including Indiana University and Purdue University, represent another employer category worth researching.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Indiana?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for attorneys in Indiana, as law qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a Juris Doctor degree. Attorneys from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa. The O-1A is an option for attorneys with demonstrated extraordinary ability, such as published legal scholarship or prominent case recognition. TN visa status covers Canadian and Mexican lawyers under USMCA.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate aggregates attorney positions in Indiana from employers with documented visa sponsorship activity, filtering out roles unlikely to support international candidates. Search by city, practice area, or visa type to narrow results to Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, or South Bend. Migrate Mate's job board is built specifically for international job seekers, so every listed role has been screened for sponsorship signals.
Which cities in Indiana have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the large majority of attorney sponsorship activity in Indiana, driven by its concentration of Am Law 200 firms, Fortune 500 legal departments, and state government legal offices. South Bend has a smaller but active legal market, partly anchored by Notre Dame's legal programs and affiliated employers. Fort Wayne hosts regional firm offices and healthcare system legal departments that periodically sponsor international attorneys.
Are there state-specific considerations for attorney visa sponsorship in Indiana?
Attorneys sponsored on an H-1B in Indiana must pass the Indiana bar exam or be admitted through reciprocity to practice independently. Employers must file a Labor Condition Application certifying the offered wage meets the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the specific attorney role and geographic area. Indiana's lower cost of living relative to coastal markets means prevailing wage floors are generally lower, which can affect the employer's LCA filing.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
