Search Attorney Jobs in UtahAttorney Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Utah?
Large law firms with Salt Lake City offices, including national firms with Utah practices, are among the most consistent sponsors for attorney roles. Technology companies headquartered along the Wasatch Front, such as Adobe and Qualtrics, also sponsor in-house counsel positions. Intermountain Health and other major healthcare systems sponsor attorneys for regulatory, compliance, and contracting roles. Corporate legal departments in financial services and energy sectors round out the sponsoring employer base.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Utah?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for attorneys in Utah, as legal positions requiring a Juris Doctor degree typically qualify as specialty occupations. Attorneys from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa, while Canadian and Mexican nationals can use the TN visa under the USMCA, which includes attorneys as a designated profession. The O-1A is an option for attorneys with demonstrated extraordinary achievement in their field.
Which cities in Utah have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City accounts for the majority of attorney sponsorship opportunities in Utah, driven by its concentration of law firms, corporate headquarters, and major healthcare and technology employers. Provo and Orem have a smaller but growing in-house legal market tied to Utah County's technology industry. Ogden hosts some corporate legal work connected to manufacturing and logistics companies operating in the northern Wasatch region.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and it filters attorney roles by state, including Utah. Searching Migrate Mate for attorney positions in Utah surfaces employers with verified sponsorship histories, saving significant time compared to reviewing general job postings. Focusing your search on in-house counsel roles at technology companies and large healthcare systems in Salt Lake City tends to yield the strongest sponsorship pipeline.
Are there any Utah-specific considerations for attorneys seeking visa sponsorship?
Attorneys sponsored for Utah positions must be licensed to practice in Utah or hired for roles that do not require state bar admission, such as federal practice, compliance, or transactional work. Utah's State Bar has its own admission requirements, and visa sponsorship does not substitute for licensure. Employers in Utah's tech corridor often hire foreign-educated attorneys for non-litigating roles, which can broaden eligibility for candidates whose credentials differ from U.S. law school graduates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
