Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Hawaii?
The most active sponsors for attorney roles in Hawaii include large Honolulu-based firms such as Cades Schutte, Carlsmith Ball, and Bays Lung Rose & Holma, as well as national firms with Hawaii offices. The University of Hawaii and federal agencies with Pacific operations also sponsor legal professionals. Corporate legal departments in Hawaii's hospitality, real estate, and financial sectors periodically sponsor qualified candidates.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Hawaii?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa for attorney positions in Hawaii, as legal roles requiring a Juris Doctor and bar admission typically qualify as specialty occupations. Attorneys with extraordinary recognition in their field may pursue the O-1A. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3, and those from Canada or Mexico may be eligible under the TN visa category for certain legal consulting roles.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers have a demonstrated history of sponsoring work visas. You can search by practice area and location to identify Honolulu-based law firms, corporate legal departments, and public sector employers actively hiring international attorneys. Setting up alerts ensures you see new postings as they appear.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the overwhelming majority of attorney sponsorship opportunities in Hawaii. The city hosts virtually all major law firms, federal district and appellate courts, state government legal offices, and the University of Hawaii's legal operations. Hilo on the Big Island has a smaller legal market centered on county government and local firms. Other islands offer limited openings, almost exclusively in government or nonprofit legal services.
Are there state-specific considerations for attorney visa sponsorship in Hawaii?
Attorneys sponsored for Hawaii positions must still obtain admission to the Hawaii State Bar, which requires passing the Hawaii bar examination regardless of immigration status or prior bar admission elsewhere. Hawaii's location makes it a hub for Pacific Rim international law and cross-border transactions involving Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines, which can strengthen a candidate's profile for firms with Asia-Pacific practices. Prevailing wage determinations for attorney roles in Hawaii reflect Honolulu's cost of living, which is among the highest in the United States.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
