Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Minnesota?
The most active sponsors for attorney roles in Minnesota are large law firms headquartered in Minneapolis, including Dorsey & Whitney, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath, and Fredrikson & Byron. Corporate legal departments at Minnesota-based Fortune 500 companies such as UnitedHealth Group, Target, and General Mills also sponsor international attorneys, particularly for in-house roles in compliance, contracts, and regulatory affairs.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for attorneys in Minnesota, as legal positions requiring a J.D. and bar admission clearly meet the specialty occupation standard. The O-1A is an option for attorneys with demonstrated exceptional ability, such as published legal scholars or those with significant awards. TN status covers certain legal roles for Canadian and Mexican nationals under specific qualifying criteria.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the overwhelming majority of attorney sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. Minneapolis is home to the state's largest law firms and the regional offices of national and international firms. Saint Paul hosts significant state government legal work and nonprofit legal organizations. Rochester has a smaller but growing legal market tied to the Mayo Clinic's substantial in-house and affiliated legal needs.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters attorney roles in Minnesota by visa sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have actually sponsored before. Because Minnesota's attorney market is concentrated in a small number of major firms and large corporate legal departments, filtering by employer type on Migrate Mate helps identify the most relevant opportunities without sorting through roles unlikely to sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for attorney visa sponsorship in Minnesota?
Attorneys working in Minnesota must be admitted to the Minnesota State Bar or qualify under a limited license exception, which affects how employers structure sponsored roles. International attorneys often enter through supervised practice positions while completing bar requirements. University of Minnesota Law School graduates with international backgrounds have historically connected with Twin Cities firms through on-campus recruiting pipelines, which can be an early entry point into the Minnesota legal market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
