Which companies sponsor visas for attorneys in Wisconsin?
The most active sponsors for attorney roles in Wisconsin include large law firms headquartered in Milwaukee and Madison, such as Foley & Lardner, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, and Michael Best & Friedrich. Corporate legal departments at companies like Northwestern Mutual, Fiserv, and Harley-Davidson also sponsor attorneys, particularly for compliance, regulatory, and in-house counsel positions.
Which visa types are most common for attorney roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for attorneys in Wisconsin, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a Juris Doctor degree. Attorneys who have passed a state bar and worked at a senior level may also qualify for the O-1A based on extraordinary ability. TN status under USMCA applies to Canadian and Mexican national attorneys meeting specific documentation requirements.
How to find attorney visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters attorney job listings in Wisconsin specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually screening postings that don't lead anywhere. You can browse roles across Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay, covering law firms, corporate legal departments, and government-adjacent employers. Migrate Mate is designed for international candidates, so every listing reflects an employer open to sponsoring work authorization.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most attorney sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is Wisconsin's primary market for attorney sponsorship, driven by its concentration of AmLaw-ranked firms and Fortune 500 corporate headquarters. Madison is the second-largest hub, supported by state government legal work, the University of Wisconsin system, and a growing tech sector with compliance and IP needs. Green Bay and Waukesha see smaller but consistent demand, primarily through regional corporate legal departments.
Are there state-specific considerations for international attorneys seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
International attorneys must pass the Wisconsin Bar Exam or qualify for admission on motion before practicing law independently in the state. Employers sponsoring H-1B petitions for attorney roles must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor certifying that the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the occupation and geographic area. Wisconsin's legal market skews toward litigation, insurance defense, and financial services, which shapes where sponsoring employers tend to concentrate.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored attorney jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
