Which companies sponsor visas for engineering interns in South Carolina?
BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, Michelin North America in Greenville, and Bosch in Anderson are among the larger employers with established engineering internship programs in South Carolina. Duke Energy and Sonoco Products also hire engineering interns. Sponsorship availability varies by program year and role, so confirming directly with each employer's recruiting team is the most reliable approach.
Which visa types are most common for engineering intern roles in South Carolina?
Most international students completing engineering internships in South Carolina use OPT or CPT through their F-1 student visa, which allows them to work without a separate employer-sponsored petition. For post-graduation roles that began as internships, H-1B is the primary pathway, though it requires employer sponsorship and is subject to the annual cap and lottery process.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most engineering intern sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and the Upstate region lead for engineering intern opportunities, driven by the automotive and advanced manufacturing corridor anchored by BMW, Michelin, and dozens of supplier companies. Columbia follows, supported by the presence of state government agencies, utilities like SCE&G, and proximity to the University of South Carolina. Charleston is a growing option, particularly in aerospace and defense.
How to find engineering intern visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters engineering intern roles specifically by visa sponsorship status, making it straightforward to identify South Carolina employers who are open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than sorting through broad job listings, you can search directly for engineering intern positions in cities like Greenville, Columbia, or Charleston and see which postings are sponsorship-eligible from the start.
Are there state-specific factors international students should know about engineering internships in South Carolina?
South Carolina's Upstate manufacturing corridor has a well-established co-op and internship culture, and several employers partner directly with Clemson University and the University of South Carolina for structured rotational programs. Many of these programs are designed with F-1 CPT or OPT timelines in mind. International students should confirm CPT eligibility with their Designated School Official before accepting an offer, as premature or improper CPT use can affect F-1 status.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering intern jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
