Which companies sponsor visas for staff software engineers in South Carolina?
Blackbaud, headquartered in Charleston, is one of the most active tech employers in the state and has sponsored H-1B visas for senior engineering roles. Defense and aerospace contractors operating near Columbia and North Charleston, including Boeing and SAIC, also sponsor at the staff level. Fintech firms and healthcare IT companies in the Greenville-Spartanburg corridor represent additional sponsoring employers worth targeting.
Which visa types are most common for staff software engineer roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for staff software engineers in South Carolina. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates already holding L-1A or L-1B status through an intracompany transfer are also represented, particularly at larger employers with global operations in the state.
How to find staff software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search staff software engineer roles in South Carolina without manually vetting each employer. The platform aggregates positions from employers who have a documented history of sponsoring work visas, which is especially useful in a mid-sized market like South Carolina where sponsoring employers are more concentrated than in major tech hubs.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most staff software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbia has the highest concentration of tech employment in the state, anchored by state government IT contracts, USC's research ecosystem, and growing private sector firms. Charleston has emerged as a notable tech hub, driven by Blackbaud and a wave of fintech and SaaS startups. Greenville and the Upstate region are expanding, with manufacturing technology and healthcare IT companies increasingly hiring at the staff engineer level.
Are there any state-specific considerations for staff software engineers pursuing visa sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina's tech sector is smaller than neighboring North Carolina or Georgia, so the pool of H-1B-sponsoring employers is more selective. University of South Carolina and Clemson University generate local engineering talent pipelines that some employers draw from before hiring internationally. Staff-level roles carry higher prevailing wage obligations than junior positions, which means employers sponsoring at this seniority tier tend to be larger, more established organizations with dedicated HR and immigration infrastructure.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored staff software engineer jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
