Which companies sponsor visas for staff software engineers in Texas?
Large employers with consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for staff software engineers in Texas include Dell Technologies, AT&T, Oracle, Texas Instruments, and HPE, all headquartered or with major engineering offices in the state. Austin's tech scene also includes Apple, Google, Amazon, and Meta, which have expanded Texas campuses and regularly sponsor engineers at the staff level.
Which visa types are most common for staff software engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for staff software engineers in Texas, as the role clearly qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1A or L-1B status through intracompany transfers are also common at this level, particularly in large multinationals with Texas operations.
Which cities in Texas have the most staff software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin concentrates the highest volume of staff software engineer sponsorship roles, reflecting its density of both established tech companies and high-growth startups. Dallas-Fort Worth is a close second, driven by large enterprise employers in finance, telecom, and infrastructure tech. Houston contributes roles primarily through energy-tech, aerospace, and healthcare IT companies with active engineering teams.
How to find staff software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to browse staff software engineer roles in Texas without manually screening each posting. Because staff engineers are senior-level hires, filtering by seniority alongside sponsorship status helps surface roles where employers are actively investing in the hiring process. Migrate Mate's Texas listings cover Austin, Dallas, and Houston employers with verified sponsorship histories.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for staff software engineer visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since the Department of Labor's wage determinations are based on gross compensation. Staff software engineer roles in Austin are benchmarked against a competitive local market, so employers must meet wage levels that reflect that competition when filing a Labor Condition Application. Texas also has strong university pipelines from UT Austin and Texas A&M that feed entry-level roles, meaning staff-level openings are typically targeted at experienced candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored staff software engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
