Which companies sponsor visas for tax accountants in Texas?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, all have significant Texas offices and documented H-1B sponsorship histories for tax accountant roles. Large multinationals headquartered in Texas, including ExxonMobil, AT&T, and American Airlines, also sponsor tax professionals. Regional firms serving the energy and financial sectors round out the sponsorship picture in Houston and Dallas.
Which visa types are most common for tax accountant roles in Texas?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa category for tax accountants in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Some candidates enter through OPT or STEM OPT extensions before employer sponsorship. Australians may pursue the E-3 visa, and Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under the TN visa category with accounting credentials.
Which cities in Texas have the most tax accountant sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads for tax accountant sponsorship, driven by the concentration of energy companies and international corporations requiring specialized tax expertise. Dallas-Fort Worth is a close second, home to numerous corporate headquarters and large accounting firm offices. Austin has grown significantly as a tech and finance hub. San Antonio and smaller markets have fewer sponsorship opportunities but are not without options for experienced candidates.
How to find tax accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship jobs, including tax accountant roles in Texas. You can filter by state and role to surface employers with documented sponsorship histories. This is particularly useful for targeting Texas-specific hubs like Houston's energy sector or the Dallas corporate market, rather than sorting through listings that do not clearly indicate sponsorship availability.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for tax accountants seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which shapes the tax work at many employers and can affect the mix of responsibilities in a role. Employers in Houston's energy sector often seek candidates with international tax experience, given their global operations. Texas also has several strong accounting programs at the University of Texas, Texas A&M, and Rice University, meaning local OPT pipelines feed into sponsoring firms, making early networking with those employer relationships worthwhile.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax accountant jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
