Which companies sponsor visas for welders in Texas?
Large energy and industrial employers are the most active sponsors for welders in Texas. Companies such as ExxonMobil, Fluor Corporation, McDermott International, and Huntsman Corporation have histories of hiring skilled tradespeople and supporting work visa petitions. Smaller specialty contractors serving the Gulf Coast petrochemical corridor also sponsor welders, particularly for pipe welding and pressure vessel work where qualified candidates are difficult to source domestically.
Which visa types are most common for welder roles in Texas?
The H-2B visa is the most common pathway for welders in Texas, covering temporary nonagricultural skilled trade positions when U.S. workers are unavailable. Some highly specialized welders, such as those certified in underwater or advanced pipe welding, may qualify under the H-1B if the role requires a relevant bachelor's degree, though this is uncommon for most welding positions. EB-3 immigrant visas are another pathway for permanent sponsorship in skilled trade roles.
How to find welder visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles, including welder positions in Texas. You can filter by state and job category to see which employers are actively hiring and have sponsorship histories. Focusing your search on Houston, Beaumont, and Corpus Christi will surface the highest concentration of welding opportunities tied to the energy and petrochemical industries.
Which cities in Texas have the most welder sponsorship jobs?
Houston is the dominant market for sponsored welder roles in Texas, anchored by the energy sector and a dense network of refineries and industrial contractors along the Ship Channel. Beaumont and Port Arthur form a secondary hub due to their concentration of petrochemical plants. Corpus Christi is growing as an LNG export and refinery center. San Antonio and Midland also see demand, particularly for structural and pipeline welding tied to construction and oil field services.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for welders seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas welding roles tied to the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries often require specific certifications, such as AWS D1.1 structural welding or ASME Section IX for pressure vessels, which can strengthen a visa petition by demonstrating specialized qualifications. The Department of Labor sets prevailing wage requirements for sponsored positions, and Texas wage levels for certified welders in industrial settings are benchmarked to those standards. Employers in Texas must attest they could not find qualified U.S. workers before sponsoring foreign nationals.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored welder jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
