Which companies sponsor visas for mental health professionals in Utah?
Intermountain Health is Utah's largest healthcare employer and has an established history of sponsoring international clinical staff. The University of Utah Health, Valley Behavioral Health, and Huntsman Mental Health Institute also hire licensed mental health professionals and have sponsored H-1B workers. Federally qualified health centers and community mental health centers are additional sources of sponsorship, as their nonprofit or government status can simplify certain visa processes.
Which visa types are most common for mental health roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed mental health professionals in Utah, covering roles like licensed clinical social worker, licensed professional counselor, and psychologist, which qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a master's or doctoral degree. The J-1 visa is also used, particularly for psychiatrists completing residency or fellowship training at University of Utah Health or affiliated programs. Some roles at nonprofits may also be eligible for the EB-1C or EB-2 immigrant pathways over time.
Which cities in Utah have the most mental health visa sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City concentrates the majority of mental health sponsorship opportunities, largely due to the presence of University of Utah Health, Intermountain Health's flagship facilities, and Huntsman Mental Health Institute. Provo and Orem, home to Utah Valley Hospital and several behavioral health practices, represent a secondary hiring market. St. George is a growing hub in southern Utah where provider shortages have prompted larger health systems to expand recruitment, including for international candidates.
How to find mental health visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find mental health visa sponsorship jobs in Utah, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. Because sponsorship willingness is not always stated in standard job postings, using a dedicated platform like Migrate Mate saves significant time. Focus your search on licensed clinical roles at large health systems and community mental health centers in Salt Lake City, Provo, and St. George.
Are there any state-specific considerations for mental health professionals seeking sponsorship in Utah?
Utah requires separate state licensure for every mental health discipline, and international candidates must have their foreign credentials evaluated for equivalency before applying for licensure through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. The University of Utah's graduate programs in social work, psychology, and counseling create a strong local talent pipeline, which means employer competition for sponsored roles can be selective. Utah's Medicaid expansion has increased behavioral health funding, supporting more full-time clinical positions that are eligible for sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
