INTRODUCTION
Nusano is redefining the production and supply of isotopes to support precision medicine, advanced diagnostics, therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, and national security needs. Through proprietary accelerator‑driven production platforms and integrated nuclear chemistry capabilities, Nusano is building a next‑generation isotope supply ecosystem that emphasizes reliability, safety, and innovation.
We are seeking an experienced RF Systems Engineer to join our team in West Valley City. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for the development and maintenance of the RF systems that make up Nusano’s production platform, primarily its Linear accelerator.
The RF systems, each including a low-level drive, high power amplification, and ancillary subsystems, integrate to produce 2MW peak and 300kW average power at 352 MHz power Nusano’s accelerator platform. These systems require knowledge in low level RF design and operation; understanding of the interplay with high power RF is desirable. High availability of these systems is a must for Nusano to meet its radioisotope production goals supporting applications in cancer care. Future opportunities in this discipline may include Nusano’s radioisotope separation and next generation of particle production machines.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
- Active (hands-on) participation within the team that designs, develops, installs, integrates, and maintains the RF systems, ensuring that they meet high-availability performance and reliability requirements.
- Work with technical staff to develop and implement procedures for systems operation and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with the RF system and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain documentation for the RF systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and procedures.
- Work with external vendors to procure and integrate RF components and systems.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with established safety protocols and regulations.
- Keep up to date with new developments and technologies in RF engineering and related disciplines.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technical staff to develop and implement improvements to the systems and associated components.
- As requested, perform discipline-related calculations, simulations, and analyses.
- Perform other duties as mutually agreed upon with your supervisor.
- Ensure that the work of self and others is carried out in a safe manner with a focus on excellence and meeting company goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical or RF engineering or equivalent.
- Understanding of RF controls and P&ID.
- Familiarity with, and at least 3 years of demonstrated hands-on experience with RF systems and measurement techniques and test equipment for testing and evaluation purposes.
- Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosis.
- Effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of requisite safety protocols and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated operational/hands-on experience, including troubleshooting skills on systems with high up-time requirements.
- Familiarity with EPICS-based controls.
- Knowledge and experience with antenna design and EMI filtering techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Working knowledge of modeling and simulation codes commonly used for electrical engineering such as Matlab, SPICE, ETAP.
Physical Requirements
- Must be comfortable working in a radiation-producing facility.
- Must be comfortable working with RF-producing equipment and high voltage/high current systems.
- Work to be conducted in both an office environment, laboratories, and production environment.
- Use of a computer with repetitive use of keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Which companies sponsor visas for systems engineers in Utah?
Defense and aerospace contractors are among the most consistent sponsors for systems engineers in Utah. Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and L3Harris have significant operations in Salt Lake City and Ogden and have filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for systems engineering roles. On the tech side, companies in the Silicon Slopes corridor, including Adobe and Qualtrics, have also sponsored systems engineers. Sponsorship availability varies by role and hiring cycle.
Which visa types are most common for systems engineer roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for systems engineers in Utah. Systems engineering typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, meeting H-1B eligibility standards. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may be eligible under the TN visa category, which includes engineers as a listed occupation.
Which cities in Utah have the most systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City and its surrounding metro area, including Ogden to the north, account for the largest concentration of systems engineer sponsorship jobs in Utah, driven heavily by defense and aerospace employers. The Silicon Slopes corridor spanning Lehi, Provo, and Orem is a secondary hub with strong demand from enterprise software and SaaS companies. Smaller pockets of engineering hiring exist near Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, which supports a range of defense contractors.
How to find systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify systems engineer positions in Utah without sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface relevant openings across Salt Lake City, the Silicon Slopes, and Ogden. Focusing on defense contractors and established tech employers in those areas tends to yield the most sponsorship-eligible postings.
Are there state-specific factors that affect systems engineer sponsorship in Utah?
Utah's concentration of defense and aerospace work means many systems engineer roles involve security clearances, which can complicate or limit sponsorship since some clearance levels require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. However, not all systems engineer positions in Utah are clearance-dependent. The Silicon Slopes tech sector and commercial software companies operate without those restrictions and represent a more accessible sponsorship pathway for international candidates. Utah's relatively low cost of base also keeps prevailing wage requirements competitive compared to coastal markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored systems engineer jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
