Which companies sponsor visas for development engineers in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's largest visa sponsors for development engineers tend to be manufacturers and industrial technology companies. Rockwell Automation, Johnson Controls, Kimberly-Clark, Oshkosh Corporation, and Kohler have established international hiring tracks and a history of H-1B visa sponsorship for engineering roles. Medical device companies in the Milwaukee area and food processing equipment firms in the Fox Valley also appear regularly in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for development engineer positions.
Which visa types are most common for development engineers in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for development engineers in Wisconsin, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field. Engineers from Canada or Mexico may also be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA, which does not require lottery selection. Some employers, particularly those with international operations, also file L-1 visa petitions for engineers transferring from overseas offices.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is Wisconsin's primary hub for development engineer sponsorship, driven by its concentration of industrial manufacturing, automation, and energy management companies. Madison sees consistent hiring through technology startups, life sciences firms, and UW-affiliated research spin-offs. The Fox Valley region, anchored by Appleton and Green Bay, generates sponsorship activity from paper, packaging, and food equipment manufacturers. Smaller but notable clusters exist in Kenosha and Racine, close to the Illinois border.
How to find development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search development engineer roles in Wisconsin without manually screening each posting. The platform aggregates positions from employers who have indicated sponsorship willingness, saving significant research time. For Wisconsin specifically, setting your search to include Milwaukee, Madison, and the Fox Valley area will surface the broadest range of development engineer opportunities from manufacturing, automation, and technology employers.
Are there state-specific considerations for development engineers seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's engineering labor market is heavily weighted toward manufacturing and industrial technology, which affects prevailing wage benchmarks set by the Department of Labor for LCA filings. Employers in the Fox Valley and Kenosha-Racine corridor often hire for process and product development roles tied to physical goods production, which can differ in scope from software-heavy development engineering roles in coastal markets. UW-Madison's engineering programs also create an active OPT pipeline that some Wisconsin employers are experienced in converting to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
