INTRODUCTION
IEX (IEX Group, Inc.) is an exchange operator and technology company dedicated to innovating for performance in capital markets. Founded in 2012, IEX launched a new kind of securities exchange in 2016 that combines a transparent business model and unique architecture designed to protect investors. Today, IEX applies its proprietary technology and experience to drive performance across asset classes, serve investors, and advocate for transparent and competitive markets.
ABOUT THE ROLE
IEX is seeking a senior Quality Engineering leader to scale and lead a best-in-class testing and automation program across our equities and options exchanges.
Our QA function has grown quickly to support expanding product and platform capabilities. While we’ve made progress, much of our testing remains manual or partially automated, and our tooling and environments are not yet standardized across asset classes. We are looking for a leader who can unify and elevate our approach — driving a scalable, multi-asset testing strategy that supports continued growth.
This role will own the end-to-end QA strategy across equities and options, modernize our automation framework, and establish a robust regression environment capable of supporting highly available, production-grade systems. You’ll partner closely with Engineering, Product, Market Operations, and Data teams, and play a critical role in improving reliability, efficiency, and release confidence across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute the vision for a unified, cross-asset QA and automation strategy across equities and options
- Lead the build-out and standardization of a scalable test harness that can be leveraged across both asset classes
- Drive the organization from a partially automated environment toward a mature, automation-first testing model
- Establish and enforce a comprehensive regression testing framework, including full regression suites run regularly against production-grade QA environments
- Evaluate and evolve current tooling (e.g., Selenium, DSL frameworks, in-house tools) and determine the right long-term automation architecture
- Ensure QA environments mirror production in strength and resiliency, while thoughtfully managing cost and infrastructure trade-offs
- Partner with Engineering and Product to translate requirements into robust automated and manual test coverage
- Leverage modern tools, including AI-assisted testing approaches, to improve efficiency and coverage
- Unify and scale a QA team currently split across asset classes into a cohesive, high-performing organization
- Act as a change agent — driving accountability, closing implementation gaps, and ensuring initiatives are completed end-to-end
- Mentor and develop existing QA leads and managers, elevating technical and operational standards across the team
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Engineering
- Direct experience supporting equities and options trading systems (experience strongly preferred)
- Proven track record implementing or significantly upgrading a testing automation program in a regulated, low-latency environment
- Experience building or leading development of a test harness (in-house or third-party) at scale
- Demonstrated success driving organizations from manual or partially automated testing to robust automation and regression frameworks
- Strong understanding of exchange, trading platform, or market infrastructure environments
- Proficiency working with Java and C-based applications; familiarity with KDB is a plus
- Experience managing QA teams (ideally 15–30+ people), including multi-site or hybrid teams
- Ability to balance technical depth with strategic leadership — not purely a player-coach, but someone who can set direction and drive execution
- Change agent mentality — able to challenge the status quo and drive measurable improvement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Comprehensive Benefits
- New hire stock equity (RSUs)
- 401K employer match
- Unlimited PTO
- 100% coverage for medical, dental, and vision
- OneMedical membership
- 16 weeks parental leave
- Wellness Benefits
- Flexible workplace
- Employer charity match
- Learning stipend
- Commuter benefits

Which companies sponsor visas for development engineers in New York?
IBM in Armonk, Lockheed Martin in Owego, Corning Incorporated in Corning, and Northrop Grumman on Long Island are among the New York employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories for development engineers. Large infrastructure and engineering consultancies headquartered in New York City, including AECOM and WSP, also sponsor international development engineers with regularity.
Which visa types are most common for development engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for development engineers in New York, covering roles in electrical, mechanical, systems, and software-adjacent engineering. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN status under the engineer category, which avoids the H-1B lottery. Engineers with extraordinary ability in their discipline may also be considered for O-1A sponsorship by New York employers.
Which cities in New York have the most development engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest volume, driven by infrastructure firms, defense primes, and technology companies. Long Island, particularly Nassau and Suffolk counties, is a significant cluster for aerospace and defense development engineering. Upstate hubs including Albany, Rochester, and the Southern Tier near Corning and Binghamton support manufacturing, semiconductor, and advanced materials engineering roles with international hiring activity.
How to find development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it practical to search development engineer roles in New York without sorting through positions that exclude international candidates. The platform surfaces employers with active H-1B sponsorship activity, which is particularly useful in New York where sponsorship willingness varies significantly between large defense contractors, mid-size manufacturers, and engineering consultancies.
Are there state-specific factors that affect development engineer sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements are tied to Department of Labor locality determinations, and the New York City metropolitan area commands higher wage floors than upstate regions, which affects which employers can feasibly sponsor. The state's concentration of universities including Cornell, RPI, and Columbia creates strong graduate pipelines that employers draw from, meaning sponsorship competition is particularly active for candidates coming out of advanced degree programs in engineering disciplines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
