DESCRIPTION
Application deadline: Jun 7, 2026
Amazon Ads is building the systems that determine where billions of ad impressions land geographically every day, and we need a Software Development Engineer to lead that work. You'll own the architecture that scores location signals in real time, turns those scores into bid-time features, and connects advertiser targeting to the physical world.
The Geo Targeting team sits at the intersection of ad tech, large-scale data infrastructure, and applied ML. Our systems process billions of bid requests daily, fusing multiple location signal sources to determine where an impression is coming from and how confident we are in that answer. The challenge is that location signals are noisy, often conflicting, and vary in reliability by country, device type, and signal source. You'll design the systems that make sense of that noise at bid-time latency, at global scale, under evolving privacy constraints. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll write production code, lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and own systems that directly affect how hundreds of thousands of advertisers reach customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and build real-time location signal processing systems that ingest, score, and resolve multiple geo data sources at bid-time latency
- Architect data pipelines that connect large-scale address and device signals to impression-level location inference
- Own the integration between location intelligence systems and the bid optimization stack
- Solve for international coverage gaps where existing location inference methods are unreliable
- Drive operational excellence across geo infrastructure, including latency, accuracy measurement, and cost efficiency
- Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction across adjacent teams in bidding, targeting, and measurement
A day in the life
Your days are anchored in code, but the problems change. One morning you're designing a system that processes location signals across billions of daily requests. That afternoon you're digging into data to figure out why accuracy drops for a specific carrier in Germany. The next day you're in a room with scientists and bidding engineers, debating how to turn a noisy signal into something the bidder can act on in microseconds. You own what you build, from design through production operations. You also mentor engineers, interview candidates, and write the documents that set technical direction. The problems are hard, the scale is massive, and the impact is direct.
About the team
We build the location intelligence that powers geographic targeting across Amazon's demand-side platform. Our customers are advertisers who need to reach people in specific places, from a single neighborhood to an entire country. The team is small and technical. Engineers work directly with scientists, product managers, and partner engineering teams across bidding, targeting, and measurement. You will have real ownership and direct influence on what we build and how we build it. We value clarity in thinking, simplicity in design, and rigor in operations. We are growing, and the people we hire now will define the team's technical culture.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Which companies sponsor visas for development engineers in Colorado?
Lockheed Martin Space, Raytheon Intelligence and Space, Ball Aerospace, and Arrow Electronics are among the larger Colorado employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for engineering roles. In the Denver-Boulder area, companies in clean energy, semiconductor, and defense sectors also sponsor development engineers regularly. Sponsorship patterns vary by company size, project funding, and annual hiring volume, so researching specific employers before applying is worthwhile.
Which visa types are most common for development engineer roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for development engineers in Colorado, particularly at aerospace and defense contractors that file petitions each year. Engineers from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which covers engineers without requiring a petition. Australian nationals may be eligible for the E-3 visa. O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated extraordinary achievement, though it requires substantial documentation.
How to find development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate lets you filter development engineer jobs in Colorado by visa sponsorship availability, so you're only seeing roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. This saves time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship later. Colorado's aerospace and defense employers tend to list roles in Denver, Boulder, Littleton, and Colorado Springs, so filtering by those cities on Migrate Mate can help narrow your search further.
Which cities in Colorado have the most development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Denver and Boulder account for the largest share of development engineer sponsorship activity in Colorado. Littleton and Englewood, which host Lockheed Martin Space and Raytheon operations, are also significant hiring areas. Colorado Springs has a strong defense presence through Northrop Grumman and L3Harris. Fort Collins sees demand from semiconductor and electronics firms. The Front Range corridor from Fort Collins to Pueblo concentrates the majority of engineering employer activity.
Are there any Colorado-specific considerations for development engineer visa sponsorship?
Colorado's prevailing wage requirements apply to H-1B and E-3 visa petitions, and employers must certify wages meet Department of Labor standards for the Denver-Aurora or Boulder metropolitan areas, which have their own wage determinations. Colorado's large defense contractor base means many development engineer roles require security clearances, which can complicate or delay sponsorship timelines for foreign nationals. University pipelines from CU Boulder and Colorado School of Mines also feed talent directly into sponsored engineering positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development engineer jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
