Which companies sponsor visas for interns in Wisconsin?
Epic Systems in Verona is among the most active sponsors for technical interns in Wisconsin, given its scale in healthcare software. Johnson Controls in Milwaukee hires engineering and business interns with sponsorship history. Northwestern Mutual and American Family Insurance also support intern programs in financial services. University research hospitals affiliated with UW Health and Froedtert Health occasionally sponsor interns in research and clinical informatics roles.
Which visa types are most common for intern roles in Wisconsin?
Most international interns in Wisconsin work under F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows students enrolled at U.S. universities to gain practical training without a separate employer-sponsored visa petition. J-1 visa intern and trainee visas are also common, particularly for structured exchange programs. H-1B visa sponsorship for internships is rare and typically limited to post-graduation full-time conversion offers rather than the internship itself.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most intern sponsorship jobs?
Madison leads Wisconsin for intern sponsorship opportunities, driven by Epic Systems, UW-Madison's research infrastructure, and a growing tech and biotech presence. Milwaukee is the second-largest hub, with strength in manufacturing, insurance, and financial services. Green Bay offers internship opportunities in food processing, logistics, and healthcare, though at smaller volume. Madison and Milwaukee together account for the majority of sponsored intern postings in the state.
How to find intern visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for intern roles in Wisconsin without sifting through positions that don't support international candidates. You can narrow results by city, industry, or visa type to focus on Madison's tech employers, Milwaukee's financial and manufacturing sectors, or other Wisconsin markets. Creating a profile on Migrate Mate also helps match your background to employers actively seeking sponsored interns.
Are there state-specific considerations for intern visa sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's large research university system, particularly UW-Madison, generates a strong pipeline of F-1 students who pursue CPT and OPT internships locally. Employers in Wisconsin who sponsor J-1 interns must work with a designated sponsor organization and comply with program requirements around training plans and supervision. Wisconsin has no state-level immigration rules that differ from federal standards, but employers in regulated industries like healthcare must also satisfy state licensing requirements before placing international interns.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored intern jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
